The Year 3 Teachers have recommended …
There are stories about people who want to live forever.
This is not one of those stories.
This is a story about someone who wants to stop…
Alfie Monk is like any other nearly teenage boy – except he’s 1,000 years old and can remember the last Viking invasion of England.
Obviously no one believes him.
So when everything Alfie knows and loves is destroyed in a fire, and the modern world comes crashing in, Alfie embarks on a mission to find friendship, acceptance, and a different way to live…
… which means finding a way to make sure he will eventually die.

Which book are you reading? Which would you like to read?
This week in year 3 we have been learning about all the Egyptian gods names and which are the important ones. Can you remember which was the most important?
On Thursday, we celebrated world book week, we wore our pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers! We also brought in our favourite books and teddy.
Mrs Gough delivered us a present … a treasure chest full of brand new books! We can’t wait to read them and recommend them to each other.

Yesterday was our first day back after half term and we had an exciting day dressed as Ancient Egyptians, even the teachers dressed up! In history, we learnt about the Ancient Egyptian gods. Can you name any of the gods? Then, in the afternoon we performed our Egyptian dance. We had great fun!
This half term, we are continuing to learn about Ancient Egypt. What has been your favourite part of the topic so far?
The children had an exciting day in year 3 today. They visited Manchester museum to learn about the Ancient Egyptians.
When they arrived at the museum, the children explored the different floors and were amazed at everything they saw.
As the children made their way to the lunchroom a lady, who worked at the museum, stopped them and showed them two different fossils.
After the children had eaten their lunch, it was time for them to learn about Ancient Egyptian. They met the museum leader, Hannah, who talked to them about life in Ancient Egyptian. Then it was time for the children to take part in their first activity. During this activity they had to take pictures of 4 objects, which the Mummy would need in the afterlife. Whilst taken part in the activity, the children got the opportunity to look at a real life mummy, which was on display in the Museum. They were amazed to see that she still had her toe nails!
Then it was time for their second activity. The children were able to handle real Egyptian artefacts and had to match names and descriptions to them. In groups, they had to decide which artefact would be the most important in the afterlife. Just before the children got back on the coach, they created a 3D pyramid using foam blocks. The children were timed and they build it in 1 minute 30 second, but … Mrs Wilcock’s class beat them with a time of 1 minute 17 seconds!
The children had a brilliant day and all behaved themselves brilliantly!
What was your favourite part of the day?
I hope you have all had a fantastic Christmas and a happy new year! I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Our new topic is the Stone Age!
We have spent some time this week looking at the book ‘Stone Age Boy’.
In the story, the boy falls into a different world and realises he has landed in the Stone Age. He meets a new friend, called Om and explores the village. When he lands back at home, he isn’t sure whether it was a dream or not. Do you think it was a dream? Comment below what you think, I am looking forward to reading your thoughts.
